Biography
Jason R. Aguiló Suro is a co-founder of Aguiló LLC. Following seven years at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and University of Michigan Law School, Jason returned to Puerto Rico to join the Litigation Department at Pietrantoni Méndez & Álvarez LLC. For the following fourteen years, he then gained extensive litigation experience and skills in the representation of corporate client interests at the trial and appellate levels in both the Puerto Rico and Federal courts.
Throughout his career, Jason has been engaged in the representation of clients in connection with a wide array of civil and commercial matters, including dealer and distributor agreements, personal injury and consumer claims, business disputes, class actions, mass torts, securities litigation, labor and employment, insurance contract litigation, and defense of clients affected by so-called “drive-by” ADA lawsuits in Puerto Rico. Moreover, Jason has been the lead drafter for myriad prevailing clients in appellate proceedings before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit; the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico; and the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals.
Jason has also appeared before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in the representation of several broker-dealers in dozens of cases to defend securities claims, as well as before the American Arbitration Association (AAA) in the representation of corporate clients and involving high-stakes business disputes. Together with his commercial litigation work, this has enabled him to amass extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation and arbitration. Furthermore, Jason has also appeared in representation of clients before administrative forums such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC); the Puerto Rico Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO, by its Spanish acronym); the Puerto Rico Health Insurance Administration (ASES, by its Spanish acronym); and the Puerto Rico Permits Management Office (OGPE, by its Spanish acronym), among others. Lastly, Jason has also amassed extensive experience in the representation of pawn shop clients before the bankruptcy court in many cases where, under the “Pawn Shop Exclusion” of the federal Bankruptcy Code, the pawn shop has sought to exclude from the bankruptcy estate a vehicle pawned by the Debtor as part of a pre-petition pawn loan secured by the vehicle’s title.
Jason is also active in civic groups as a Club Leader on the executive board of the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan; and as one of five members of the Board of the Homeowners Association of Tower 1000 at Ciudadela de Santurce (a condo with 89 apartments), among other endeavors.
