Biography
Rafael E. Aguiló-Vélez is a co-founder of Aguiló LLC. His practice is focused on labor and employment and commercial laws and regulations advice and litigation. He is a consummate and experienced trial lawyer, with more than thirty years of experience, having tried and argued hundreds of cases before all Puerto Rico courts, the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the National Labor Relations Board, and Puerto Rico and federal administrative agencies.
Before becoming a lawyer, Rafael held several management positions in Wisconsin and Ohio with a national retailer, presided a company in the business of insulating homes, and owned and managed a small printer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Thus, as a businessperson who lived it, becoming a business lawyer came naturally to him, as did combining his business experience and litigation skills to become invaluable at preventive counseling and as a skilled negotiator of settlements and business conflicts for his corporate clients.
His experience includes representing corporate entities in claims of, amongst other, wrongful dismissal, discrimination, sexual harassment, wage and hour, workers’ compensation, reductions in force, distribution contracts, torts, breach of contract litigation, non-compete agreements, and product liability.
Rafael frequently presents customized seminars to businesses targeting the specific needs and business realities of each client. Before co-founding Aguiló LLC, Rafael also co-founded and managed for over twenty years Schuster Aguiló LLC, served as a special aide to the Secretary of Justice of Puerto Rico, and ran his private practice.
